Symon Construction are speciliast contractors in schools and have been providing our flexible construction solutions to the education sector for many years.

Symon were tasked with the construction of a new Expressive Arts Centre at the school under a JCT Management Contract. The project included a new-build, three-storey classroom complex to house the school’s Expressive Arts: Drama, Art & Music.

After assisting in the funding process for the school having worked on a number of previous projects with the school, Symon were appointed as Management Contractor in November 2013 for the scheme with construction beginning on site while the design for the building was still on-going - requiring an extremely fluid and flexible approach and careful liaison with the school’s design team.

The project was required to be completed with a rapid turnaround with a critical six-month programme to complete the works after commencing on site. A steel/timber framed construction made time-savings in labour on site while pre-fabricated screed boards avoided the lengthy delays associated with floor curing to ensure rapid progression of the project.

The facilities created include three art studios & a dark room, two music rooms, four practice rooms and a recording studio as well as two drama studios with a concertina wall which can be made into one large space and a dance studio with a fully sprung floor & changing rooms with theatre style mirrors. These learning spaces are all purpose-built with the latest technology and facilities.
